Speak Out winner.jpgA FELTHAM Community College Student has taken top spot at the regional final of a public speaking competition.

Shawnee Nash beat off competition from across the borough to win the Hounslow Regional final of the Jack Petchey Speak Out Challenge! 2011-12.

ART lovers are being invited to take part in a special course focusing on work from across the globe.

The six-week Arts from Around the World course is being run as part of Feltham Arts Association's Feltham Festival.

Feltham level crossing closed

THE level crossing at Feltham Station has been closed for a full upgrade and will be out of action until Monday, February 6.

The work is being carried out by Network Rail and will involve the complete removal of the existing barriers and control equipment.

Reach Academy Feltham.jpgTHE team behind a project to open a new free school in Feltham have launched a consultation to gather the views of the community.

The Reach Academy will open its doors to students in September after being given the green light by the Department of Education last October.

Hounslow Heath.jpgWORK has begun on a £50,000 project to regenerate Hounslow Heath into an 'ecologically diverse, well managed nature reserve'.

The tree planting and heathland regeneration scheme, which began last week, will involve the planting of 130 trees, including birch, oak, rowan and resistant elm trees.

Feltham Festival brochure winner.jpgTWO budding artists from Feltham Community College will have their work seen by residents across the town after winning a design competition.

Georgia Mackey, 11, won top prize in the competition to design the front cover for this year's Feltham Festival brochure, while 12-year-old Megan Monk will have her design displayed on the back cover.

RICHMOND Housing Partnership (RHP), which manages properties on Hanworth's Butts Farm estate, is offering its customers free training.

In response to feedback from residents, the partnership has organised a variety of courses and training over the coming months to help those looking for work to brush up on their skills.

BLCV.jpgRANGERS at Bedfont Lakes Country Park will be running a volunteer day on Saturday (January 21).

The event will give volunteers the chance to gain experience in conservation, meet like-minded people and give something back to the park.

Attendees should meet at the Information Centre at 10am and should bring clothes suitable for the weather, sturdy footwear, plenty to drink and some lunch.

Pedestrian hit by bus

breakingvnews.bmpA 50-YEAR-OLD woman has been taken to hospital with head injuries after being hit by a bus on Hounslow Road, Hanworth.

The incident happened at around 12.30pm today (January 16) near the junction with Little Park Drive and traffic has been delayed in both directions.

A MOTORIST is facing a £330 bill after being caught out by 'rip-off' CCTV cameras at Feltham Station.

Debbie McGovern, 38, started using a bus stand in New Road to drop her son off at the station last year, unaware she was not allowed to do so.
