Brownie pack closing down
A Feltham brownie pack is shutting down because its leader is being forced to retire.
The 7th Feltham Brownies, who meet every Tuesday at the scout hut in Ludlow Road, are disbanding because Barbara Milsom has reached the girl guides retiring age, 65.
Barbara, who lives in Feltham, has led the pack for 23 years and has seen more than 200 girls pass through her care.
She is keen to carry the group on but the Guides Association has ruled she must give up and she has been unable to find anyone to replace her.
She said: "It's a national disaster that these things are happening because there are not many people to help.
"We have been advertising around but their seems to be too much going on these days so it's tough to find someone to give up their time.
"The girls learn so much here and have a great time. Some of my old brownies have grown up and had children of their own now yet they still tell me that they always remember enjoying themselves here."
The group, which had its last meeting yesterday (Tuesday), finished with just eleven brownies as Barbara stopped taking on new members once she knew she would have to retire.
She has spent the last few weeks trying to get the girls into other packs but is struggling as they are all keen to stay together.
She said: "I am trying to fit the girls into other packs but naturally they all want to stay together and there aren't too many places with 11 spaces.
"Ideally I would find someone to take over the group in its current form but I think it might be too late for that."
If you know of a brownie pack with space for the girls or would be interested in taking over the pack yourself, contact us on 07795 666587 or email edsaunt@trinitysouth.co.uk.
