Council cuts payments to 'Legionnaires' care home

Hounslow Council has stopped paying the company that runs the care home that was shut down when Legionnaires bacteria was found in the water supply.

Feltham Dene was closed by the council on October 8 after dangerous levels of bacteria were found during routine testing.

None of the 34 elderly residents contracted Legionnaires disease but many were severely traumatised by being moved to alternative accommodation where they still remain.

The home in Spring Road is expected to be shut for a few more weeks and, as a result, the council has suspended payments to care provider Shaw Homes. Representatives from both parties will be meeting in the near future to discuss arrangements at the site.

Lead member for adult social services Councillor Pam Fisher said: "This isn't an ideal situation for anyone, but local council taxpayers wouldn't want us continuing to pay Shaw Homes under the current circumstances.

"I'm hopeful the meeting with Shaw Homes will provide clarity about their role at Feltham Dene."

We'd like to hear from you.
