HOU1809 xfact.JPGThere was no Simon Cowell but judges were wowed by entries to an X-Factor-style competition for disabled people.

Thirty-five adults with disabilities or special needs entered the show at Harle House in Feltham last week - which was organised by the Hounslow West Mencap charity.

The competition has become an annual fixture at the centre in Cardinal Road as regulars and visitors alike come alive for the singing contest.

This year's contest - which was judged by representatives from the Apollo group, Hounslow Homes and Royal Bank of Scotland - was dominated by regular attendees of the daily Mencap sessions.

Vanessa Lee won first prize, Martin O'Brien came second and Elvis impersonator Colin Morris finished in the bronze medal position.

Mencap support worker Ben Doherty said the event is one of the highlights of the Harle House calendar. "Everyone really enjoyed it and we have had nothing but good feedback," he added.

"When it comes to music they adore it. For many people with learning difficulties it does wonders - that's why the X-Factor show is always such a great event."

We'd like to hear from you.
