Shopkeeper helps West Mid after her death

The family of a Feltham shopkeeper who died of heart failure aged 56 have raised £2,501 for the West Middlesex hospital ward where she died.

Manjula Pankhania, who ran the Londis supermarket in Hounslow Road, Feltham, was treated for eight weeks in the intensive care unit of the Isleworth hospital until she died on July 20 last year.

On Monday her family marked the first anniversary of her death by paying tribute to her and expressing hope that the money raised through donations from friends and family after her death would help others.

In a joint tribute they said: "Manjula was one of the kindest people you could ever meet, she opened her heart and her home to everyone over the years and she will be sorely missed."

Hospital bosses used the money to buy 13 stethoscopes and 11 thermometers and matron Elaine Danns thanked the family for their generosity.

"This now enables us to have this equipment at every space and the whole team of nurses and doctors are extremely grateful," she said.

"We are all honoured to have known, nursed and cared for Manjula during her time on the unit."

Mrs Pankhania was born in Kenya in 1951 but moved to the UK after marrying husband Ramanik in 1970 and set up home in Danesbury Road, Feltham.

They bought the supermarket and off-licence in 1978 and had three children - Heena, Rakesh and Raksha.
