Feltham care worker scoops £2.2m Lotto win

HOU15.07lott1.JPGA care home worker from Feltham who scooped £2.2m on the lottery made an extravagant first purchase - a £20 shredding machine from Lidl.

Diane Hill, 43, is planning to splash the cash on a wedding to partner Bob Gould but pledged that her shopping trip to the discount German supermarket is a sign that she will remain frugal.

"I'd been after a shredder for a while but when I came home my son couldn't believe I'd won £2.2m and gone straight to Lidl to buy a shredder," Diane said. "But we'll stay the same, we'll still go down to Lidl every Thursday for our shopping."

Diane, who worked at Feltham Dene care home until Friday, bought the shredder to help clear out her home as she and Bob are moving house.

But they are not trading up to a country mansion - they couple are swapping homes with another family living in rented accommodation and plan to stay there for the foreseeable future.

Diane and Bob were engaged within two weeks of meeting three years ago but have not been able to afford to pay for a wedding until now.

Diane said: "We've been meaning to get married for the last two years but we've just not been able to afford it - something always came up and delayed us. We started saving again for a wedding later this year but now, with this win, we won't have to wait."

They plan on honeymooning in Spain but have allowed themselves one luxury - they are buying a white Range Rover and a white Volkswagen Beetle with 'his and hers' personalised number plates.

"We will look a bit flash when we roll up in our cars but so what? It's our treat," Diane said.

The couple bought their winning lucky dip ticket at Tesco in Feltham High Street and were delighted when the numbers 4, 6, 10, 28, 35 and 39 came up.

Diane was due to start a new job on Monday but withdrew once the shock had worn off and now plans to set up a business helping the elderly.
