Security to be beefed up at Feltham Community College
Security at Feltham Community College is to be beefed up with the installation of a 2m high fence and high-tech electronic entry points.
The college in Browells Lane has applied for planning permission to build the new fencing as the current combination of walls, railings and hedges is not considered safe enough.
The improvements in security are not being made in response to any incident or imminent threat but in a letter to parents at Christmas, head teacher Victoria Eadie said she was concerned about the safety of the site.
"I am still concerned about the general safety of the site. It [improving security] will be expensive but it is seen as a real priority by students and staff. Parental feedback has also identified concerns about security and safety, with the site so open to unwanted visitors," she added.
The plans submitted to Hounslow Council include a 2m palisade fence around the perimeter of the site, a turnstile at the sixth form entrance and electronically-controlled car and pedestrian access points at the main entrance.
Neighbours of the site are being consulted on the plans and a decision on whether to grant permission is expected from the council in the coming weeks.
