Feltham rats boosted by overflowing bins

Concerned neighbours are now claiming that one of the causes could be an overflowing Clearway waste container outside nearby Alf King's Under Fives Centre, in Hanworth Road.

Alan Courtis, 65, whose daughter lives nearby, told the Chronicle: "It seems Hounslow Council are attempting to spread some sort of plague in the area, because the rats love it and the population is rapidly expanding.

"The nursery is a lovely, well-equipped centre for young children. However, right outside the front doors is this foul overflowing container, mainly consisting of used disposable nappies.

"It has been there for many weeks and is being spread over the surrounding grass area," said the pensioner, of Meadow Road.

"Action needs to be taken now, I just can't believe how filthy the council have let it get, it's purely down to negligence. My blood pressure goes through the roof when I go past it."

A council spokesman said environmental officers have visited the site this week and will be cleaning up the excess overspill.

But he said the bin is owned by a private contractor and its current state is the nursery's responsibility.
