New plans for leisure hub at Feltham Airparcs
Feltham Airparcs could see gym bunnies and book worms sipping their energy drinks and cappuccinos side by side by Christmas.
Plans to centralise leisure services at two giant leisure hubs' in Feltham and at Isleworth
Recreation Centre were first announced when Fusion Lifestyle took over the council's sport and leisure provision last year.
This week plans detailling how sports centres, pools, libraries and childcare will be combined under one roof finally went on display to the public.
Council leader Peter Thompson said: "The idea of the combined leisure and library 'hubs' is to pull together community facilities, and by adding shared cafes and social areas, create a variety of spaces where all members of the community can enjoy leisure activities."
At Feltham Airparcs Hub a new entrance and reception area will be built in the gap between the two blocks in front of the building and all the existing buildings will radiate off from this hub.
The existing Hanworth library will move into the hub which will also feature a creche and a large cafe, which will open onto a newly landscaped courtyard. Stairs and a new lift will lead to a gym with two exercise studios.
The pool changing facilities will be fully refurbished with improved facilities for families and groups.
The disused tennis courts will be reinstated and provided with flood lighting, and possibly a new multisport surface.
The design proposals were created by Fusion based on feedback from existing users and staff and they hope to start work this summer following a comprehensive consultation process.
Fusion director of business development Tim Mills said he was confident the work could be carried out without 'significant disruption' to existing services.
He added: "All being well, the new facilities should be available for use by Christmas 2009."
Display boards outlining the plans are now available for viewing by the public at each of the centres until Friday February 6.
There will also be open meetings at Feltham Airparcs Leisure Centre, at 7pm, on February 3.
