Cold criminals stay home in Feltham

Snow-scenes-1.jpgChilly Feltham criminals have shown they are no match for the cold weather, choosing to stay at home rather than cause trouble according to police.

Local cops have been enjoying an unusually slow period over the festive season and believe it is probably a result of the freezing temperatures.

"Traditionally this time of year can be very busy for us with all the drinking over new year and the party season," said Feltham Sector Inspector Pete Rusby. "But this year the cold weather seems to have driven a lot of people indoors and as a result things have been pretty quiet."

Although official figures have not yet been calculated officers say they have noticed a steep drop in the number of street crimes, including muggings and assaults.

And beat police have also noticed the difference, reporting a noticeable decrease in the number of youths needing to be moved along in the town centre dispersal zone.

Insp Rusby added: "Extremely cold weather often causes extra work for the emergency services, with road accidents and other problems, but for us it's provided a very positive start to the year. We're hoping to continue that trend when we introduce the new Controlled Drinking Zone in the town centre in February.

We'd like to hear from you.
