Retailers in The Centre, Feltham, are so far defying the gloomy predictions of falling sales, reporting an impressive 13 per cent increase in footfall last year compared to 2007.

Over a quarter of a million visitors flood into the high street-based shopping centre each week and retailers insist they have continued to trade well throughout the first part of the January sales.

Bosses at Argos say they have decided to keep on the extra staff recruited for Christmas throughout January because they have been so busy.

Cold criminals stay home in Feltham

Local cops have been enjoying an unusually slow period over the festive season and believe it is probably a result of the freezing temperatures.

millie-brister.jpgFiery redhead and much-loved former mayor Millie Brister has passed away at her Feltham home, just three weeks before her 95th birthday.

The passionate Labour supporter and founding member of the Feltham Community Association was well-known in the town for her long history of community work and time as the borough's first citizen. She died on January 2.

Bargain hunters who have not yet had their fill of shopping can head down to 10th Feltham Scout Group's jumble and book sale this month.

The stalls will be open from 10am to noon on Saturday, January 31, at the scout headquarters, in Hawkes Road, off Bedfont Lane, Feltham. Admission costs 20p.
