Witch window weaves Halloween magic

pumpkin.jpgShe may be perched cackling on a broom stick but there is nothing wicked about this Halloween witch.

Beneath the disguises are wool shop owners and enthusiastic charity fundraisers Anne Merrett and her husband Paul.

The pair, who regularly raise cash with sponsored bike rides, are using a special Hallowen design on the front window of Anne and Paul's Feltham Wool Shop to make even more cash for two of their favourite charities.

Anne told the Chronicle: "We always have the window painted for special occasions by local artist Vince Frewins. This year it's a picture of me as a witch and we're running a guess the weight of the pumpkin competition to go with it."

Customers heading into the wool shop for supplies and fancy dress costumes can now pay 50p to guess the precise weight of the enormous fruit, donated by Fernside Avenue Allotment Society, in Bedfont.

All the money raised will be split between cancer charity CLIC Sargent and Guide Dogs for the Blind. And the winning estimator will get to take their huge prize home in time for Halloween.

"They'll have to come and get it though," said Anne. "I don't want to give too much away but I think you can tell it's pretty heavy."

To enter the competition visit the wool shop at 57A Feltham High Street before Wednesday, October 29.

We'd like to hear from you.
