Feltham kids face up to giant bugs

The giant bugs were visiting Longford School, in Feltham, with performance entomologist Lee Gibbs as part of a special Science Week.

"The kids always love Science Week," said head of science Gordon Esler. "It's a celebration of everything they've achieved through the year and a chance to look at things we don't have time to study in the classroom."

The big bugs were a hit with youngsters from Year Seven who proved even less squeamish than expected.

Mr Esler added: "Curiosity got the better of them. They were dying to know what it felt like to have all those tiny legs walking over their hands and even faces."

As well as the visiting insects pupils aged 11-16 enjoyed a balloon race, experiments with liquid nitrogen and a costume day where teachers came to school dressed as famous scientists.
