Feltham donor hailed as 'silent hero'
A blood donor from Feltham whose good deed has helped save the lives of countless people has been honoured for his sacrifice.
Married dad of two Glenn Butler, of Warfield Road, was among nearly 200 'silent heros' to receive awards from the National Blood Service.
Glenn, 50, who has given blood 110 times, received a crystal decanter at a ceremony earlier this month from guest speaker Julie Henderson.
Julie received blood two years ago after an emergency C-section during the birth of her daughter.
Glenn, a plant engineer who started giving blood when he was 18, said: "I just felt it was something one should do, but I was very pleased with the award. And meeting someone like Julie puts it all in perspective."
The presentation was made ahead of World Blood Donor Day on Saturday, June 14, and an upcoming blood donor session in Feltham.
Anyone aged between 17 and 59, who weighs more than 7st 12lbs (50kg) and is in general good health, can become a blood donor.
The session is being held on Monday, July 21 at the Assembly Hall in Hounslow Road, Feltham, from 12.45pm to 3.30pm and 5.00pm to 7.30pm.
